summer hair: DIY SEA SALT SPRAY

IF THERE'S ONE HAIRSTYLE WE LOVE, IT'S BEACHY WAVES...
And with this style particularly adored this season, it’s the perfect time to have sea-salt spray at your disposal. If you make your own, and the benefits are two-fold. It’s economical, and you can also control exactly what you’re putting on your hair.  Plus, leaving out the chemicals is the best way to love your hair this summer.

Here's how:

1. Dissolve some sea salt in warm water, using roughly 1 teaspoon of salt for every cup of water. Opt for purified or distilled water over tap water, if possible, as it’ll be better for your hair. diy hair sea salt spray

2. Add in half a teaspoon to a teaspoon of virgin coconut oil. Coconut oil is rich in vitamins and minerals and a brilliant natural conditioner, so it not only makes your spray smell extra beachy, it also helps counterbalance the dryness of the salt.

Coconut oil can be found at health food stores or online, though it can be quite expensive. As an alternative, you can use some store-bought coconut-scented conditioner instead of the oil, or you could try using some Argan Oil.

3. Pour your mix into a plastic spray bottle (you can usually pick these up at supermarkets or discount stores) and shake well.

Customise: Add in a dab of hair gel for extra styling hold. Add in a drop of your favourite essential oils for extra scent and to add shine. Substitute the plain water for chamomile tea if you want to lighten the hair – or black tea to darken it.

Voila: spray on damp hair and dry in – twisting and scrunching up the hair as you go – for beachy summer texture.

how-to use HAIR OILS

HOT HAIR OILS ARE PERFECT FOR...
de-frizzing, adding extra shine, or when used as a leave-in, they give you the silkiest and smoothest locks ever - BUT there are a few steady rules you must follow to get the maximum effect.

Here's what to 'do' and 'don't' - so you don't get the greasies:
1. Do: Use it as a treatment before you wash your hair. Apply a generous amount to hair the night before you shampoo and condition your hair. Make sure to concentrate on the ends and work up to the scalp. You should brush, braid hair, and sleep with the oil in. It's also very hydrating for the scalp, so for people who have seasonal dry scalp, this will help!

2. Do: Use it as a leave-in treatment after you've washed your hair. For a leave-in, apply a 3-5 drops to freshly washed hair and again concentrate on the ends and always apply to them first, for they are the most porous. If you have an oily scalp, don't apply past the midstrand of your hair.

3. Don't: Forget to use all natural products.  Just a few drops at the ends of your hair after its dried will get rid of any flyaways and will add the most amazing sheen that isn't oily to your locks.

getting-ready for SUMMER HAIRCARE

THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS ARE PROBABLY THE MOST NOTORIOUS TIME FOR YOUR HAIR....
Here are our  secrets for shiny-super summer- soft hair…

* Give your hair a break from using hot hair tools during the summer months and consider letting your strands air-dry. If you must blow-dry - use a leave-in conditioner designed to protect your hair from heat.

* Control potential frizzies caused by humidity by wearing your hair up in a knot, bun or braids.

* Be religious about your having your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. When your ends feel frizzy, it means they’re damaged, split or both.

* Always use products with a SPF protection to protect your hair and scalp when you’re at the beach - or better still, wear a hat.

* Hair needs to be treated more gently during the summer. Consider switching to a more moisturising shampoo and conditioner.

* Before you dive into the pool, soak your hair under the shower first to lessen the hair's absorption of chlorine.

* For sun exposed or sun damaged hair, apply a deep conditioner to damp hair, wrap in plastic wrap before bedtime. Leave on overnight for extra repair and re-moisturising benefits.

Here comes the sun!

hair crush: THE TINY BOB

hair crush: LEIGH LEZARK'S TINY BOB
HOW GORGEOUS IS LEIGH LEZARK'S TINY BOB?
It looks amazing au natural by day and a little sleeker at night ~ and is perfect if you're growing out a short do
~ or wanting to update a mid-length bob...
This length and cut has the power to solve your in-between-hair problems. Plus, the deep side part adds an edgy element, and we really love how Leigh has pushed back toward her ears rather than in her face like most bobs. It works perfectly with her heart-shaped face.
